Sharing Stations

AN OPPORTUNITY TO NETWORK & CONNECT

We know that many of our attendees have excellent insight to share that may not require a full presentation. Sharing stations are an informal opportunity to share or highlight an area of their child life practice. This may include a teaching tool, intervention, resource, or new development in research. We are open to your ideas and suggestions of what you would like to share.

SUMMARY OF PRESENTATIONS

Taking them seriously: Exploring children’s questions about life, death and everything in between

Ceilidh Eaton-Russell

This 90‑minute workshop will explore a novel framework for understanding, assessing, and responding to children's grief, moving beyond age‑ and stage‑based developmental models. Grounded in child life values, children’s rights, and agency, the framework is informed by a qualitative analysis of over 700 anonymous questions about life, illness, death, and grief, posed by grieving young people at Camp Erin. Participants will explore and apply strategies to invite and respond to these questions, and consider how they may be adapted across care settings, and in alignment with grief‑informed practice. By integrating the framework into existing assessment and intervention strategies, participants may deepen their confidence and skill in engaging in meaningful grief conversations that reduce distress and foster connection and meaning‑making.
